The new certification put out by IBM, IBM Certified System Administrator - Lotus Connections 2.5, has gotten a lot of buzz on the business IT blogosphere. As IBM’s first certificate program exclusively dealing with Web 2.0 types of intra-business communication, Lotus Connections is on the cutting edge of business networking. We’re trying to gauge whether you, our customers, are interested in a practice exam for LOT-987, which you need to pass in order to be a Certified Lotus Connections 2.5 System Administrator.

The thrust of Exam LOT-987 is toward an increased understanding of intra-business social networking. You are expected to be able to keep information flowing smoothly, utilizing various New Media techniques such as wikis, electronic communities, blogs, and shared file management. You have to know how to connect an intra-business network to the world wide web while keeping it safe from viruses, hacking, and other malware from within and outside the company. IBM recently released a new certificate exam, known as LOT-953, or Lotus Notes Domino 8.5 Application Development Intermediate Skills, for IT professionals with a focus in business network application development.

The test builds on the basic skills covered in Exam LOT-952, such as working with existing Domino applications and using Images, Actions, and Agents.

In Exam LOT-953, you are expected to know how to build dynamic programs utilizing all the tools you demonstrated knowledge of in the Foundation Skills exam.

In addition, troubleshooting and security are more heavily emphasized in exam 953. In short, you are expected to have full, professional working knowledge of application development in Lotus Notes Domino 8.5.

As part of their recent thrust to ensure across-the-board quality in all technicians working with Lotus network systems, this new exam by IBM is highly regimented, requires deep understanding of the ideas and techniques involved in network maintenance, and is quite difficult to pass. Being a network technician has never required so much testing, yet there’s no other way to prove your qualifications to potential employers.

It’s been a while I have done any research on the ins and outs of the Dynamic Client Configuration Utility. However, when writing the LOT-983 IBM Lotus Notes Domino 8.5 Managing Servers and Users exam, I found there are several questions that are based on the DCC Utility and it’s ins and outs.

The Dynamic Client Configuration (DCC) is a Notes client process that synchronizes certain information between Notes clients and Domino servers. The DCC executable, ndyncfg.exe, is located in the Notes client program directory.

DCC populates the Client Information section on the Administration tab of Person documents. DCC is also required for the proper operation of certain AdminP processes such as “Move Mailfile” as well as new Notes/Domino 6.x features including Policies and Roaming Users.

Dynamic Client Configuration runs when the user authenticates with their home server, and either their Person document has been modified, or their assigned Desktop Policy has been modified since the last authentication.

DCC is designed as a push mechanism only from the server to the client. The DCC updates settings on the user’s workstation based on the current settings in the user’s Person document and any Desktop Policies that are in place. For example, if changes are made to a user’s Person document, DCC will detect the changes when the user connects to the server, and then push the appropriate changes down to the client.

DCC runs when the client is first launched or is restarted and the user opens a database on the home mail server specified in the location document

By default, the DCC is installed with every client and runs daily at the first user authentication with the server. When DCC executes it adds the following lines to an entry in the Miscellaneous Events view of the local LOG.NSF:

Dynamic Client Configuration started
Initializing Dynamic Client Configuration
Dynamic Client Configuration updating location information
Dynamic Client Configuration shutdown

An easy way is to look in the Domino Directory (names.nsf). There should be Client Information on the Administration tab of each Person document.
